What I Saw and How I Lied by Judy Blundell
3.0

Age: Middle School-High School
History: Post WWII
State: Florida

On a family getaway to Florida, Evie has fallen in love with a handsome, charismatic veteran from the war. While in the fits of young love, a storm hits the island and a tragic event shatters Evie's childlike perspective of the world leading to a suspenseful trial that presents Evie with the question of if and how to lie. Blundell's representation of Evie as a sweet, naive, young teen feels authentic. I'd recommend this to middle school kids that like realistic fiction, romance, and suspenseful endings.
