Although I’m shocked I read this so young, it makes a lot of sense now how Melinda’s attitude likely shaped mine when I eventually went to high school.
Just before her freshman year she “ruins” her reputation at a rowdy party. She starts out friendless & quiet, slowly finding strength to stand up for herself, to call out her peers for bad behavior, and to find the right medium to represent a tree per her art teacher’s long-term assignment.
