Try Me by Olivia Cunning

Woot for more Olivia Cunning! Alexa sent me Backstage Pass last year and after reading it I became an instant fan of her. I loved Backstage Pass. I read the whole Sinners On Tour Series Last year and decided I can’t let it go so have decided to reread again this year (if you want to join me and possibly win a book or two you can check out the post I made here). Yes, I am a bit obsessed.

Over break, I thrust my copy of Backstage Pass at my cousin and said READ IT! While she had it, all I wanted to do is read it again. That was not a possibility but I was texting Alexa and she brought up the One Night with Sole Regret series and I thought “Why now?” I have only read the Sinners on Tour Series yet claim to love the author. Figured I should try more of her work. I can tell you I am still a fan.

Try Me is not a full-length book but I thought it was perfect for its length. I loved that Melanie was not really into the rock star scene and was just hanging around to support…okay keep her friends out of too much trouble. She is extremely uncomfortable backstage in a room full of tattooed and pierced rock stars and fans. She cannot help but relax a little once she starts talking to the most “normal” looking person there. She is not shy about stating what she thinks about the scene. Just as she is starting to get flirty, she finds out just who Gabe is. Just thinking about it again make me chuckle.

Gabe is not Melanie’s type but to her surprise even after she finds out who he is, discovers he has piercings and tattoos, she still finds herself extremely attracted to him. Things quickly escalate and Melanie and Gabe both find themselves desperate to have each other. And oh yes they both get exactly what they want.

Short stories can always be a hit or miss. They get straight to the point. With something so short sometimes there is not much getting to know the characters. No building on the couple’s relationship. Sometimes not much time to connect with what is going on. In just 85 pages, I felt like Olivia wrote Try Me in a way that I knew who the characters were. In the short time I had to read about them I did not feel like I was missing anything. Yes, they instantly hooked up but I felt like they were perfect together. I did not feel cheated at the end and I really fell for Melanie and Gabe in that short time. I cannot wait to read more.
