All Together Dead by Charlaine Harris

Please buckle up for this review. I do not understand what is going on with Sookie and these men. Most importantly, their weird ownership and double standards are becoming increasingly annoying for her. I am starting to believe there is no possible way for this author to write any book or a book in the series without making a racist comment, recently charged, or something entirely out of pocket. I felt like every side character mentioned in this series had a different ethnicity or race, and there was a stereotype that went along with that. I don’t understand why; when Sookie needed a taxi, she couldn’t just get in the taxi. But no, the author had to make the taxi driver have a specific identity and then make a comment about the taxi driver that was racist. So I’m wondering if, at the time this book was written, this author thought that if they sprinkled in a bit of diversity, it would make the book okay. Or did the sprinkle of variety happen because they wanted the reader to see themselves in the text? However, I find it hard for any BIPOC person to find this text relatable. I remember thinking to myself, lady, just right of a white people and stay in your lane.

I also thought that I was gonna like Quyen. But, his comments about Sookie and Eric did it makes sense to me because he has skeletons in his closet that he still has not shared with Sookie. So at this point, are we living in double standard heaven? It’s like all the men in this book can do Sookie dirty but then get upset with her when she chooses her or something happens to her that’s out of her control.
