rozarka 's review for:
An English Murder
by Cyril Hare
Objectively, it's a good book. I think. I can't tell; it reminded me why I don't care about murder mysteries. The plot was not enough to hold my attention and I didn't care about the characters and their motivation. Even Bottwink who seemed fun at the beginning grated on my nerves the longer I read. What's more (and I am aware this is a strange complaint when talking about a book named An English Murder), I didn't vibe with the englishness of the book at all. Which is weird because usually I enjoy that stuff. This time it didn't feel self-aware enough and was annoying instead. Or maybe I just wasn't in a good headspace for it, who knows?
