i did expect more from this - i don’t know why since it clearly stats it’s a dark romance and it is that but i did expect a bit more than a very basic plot of murdering greedy bad guys that want to kill the woman the demon under their control is obsessing over and the woman having some kinks. 

basically this is what in fanfiction world terms i would categorize as „porn with slight plot“. 

was i expecting more? yes. 


i didn’t even go into this expecting fantastic plot or a müder mystery or action scenes (thought i guess those were in there) but what i had hoped for was actual characteristics and maybe even some actual real character build up. 


instead there is a woman that moves back to a town her family left because clearly the dad knew more than the rest of the family and knew it was time to get out of there fast but seem to have no problem letting his daughter trapse right into a potenstial deadly situation without even giving her schrak warnings or an actual talk about what makes the town wierd and what she should look out for. mhm. so not a great start to build from there. 

but the main woman doesn’t get better - her behavior borderlines on completely moronic most of the time and otherwise skirts around stupid. 

look i am also someone that walks in the dark alone and doesn’t mind doing it in areas that others might night walk alone as a woman in the dark -mostly because i honestly do believe that if someone wants to hurt you they find you no matter what and most people do not wait around a dark pretty secluded area in hopes that maybe someone will come along. 
BUT if i would hear someone was brutally murdered and nobody has a clue who done it but the person is clearly stlll walking around and you have a strange feeling? 
maybe just don’t walk alone in secluded areas if you have a car?!
seems pretty easy to do?

also if someone warns you to not do something or tells you specific people are dangerous to you specifically? 
why yes take a drink and just down that right down the hatch! nothing stupid about that?! 


so absolutely nothing against that woman’s kinks - you do you girl!- but everything else about her could have use some actual real person characteristics and maybe even half of a brain?


also the demon guy? 
look i get it- dark dangerous and broody is not supposed to be anything else but mostly he just felt like that was it. 
he was jusr supposed to be this dangerous creature and his cardboard cut out didn’t fit anything else so it was just left at that



that all sounds like i hated this. 

i didn’t. 

i just wish that darker romances didn’t just focus on sex acts or obsession or the need to posses the other person. that is not romance! that’s either lust or simply obsession/possessive behavior. 
if you say you write a romance? put some of that in their and don’t expect me to love a guy simply because he has a split tongue (?) and knows what the woman wants because she can smell it. 
that’s too little. 

i want to know more about what makes that woman so special that the demon gets so obsessive ! 
i want more than her kink to drive this thing! 


that wasn’t the case here. 


maybe i am spoiled by 20+ years of fanfics that do obsessive possessive romance in ways that work out into actual romance instead of just lust and sexual compatibility. 


if you want something a bit darker than you typical erotica romance and lots of sex? go for it.
