Never Let Me Go
by Kazuo Ishiguro
I expected a lot more out of this book. It was nice, but something seemed to be missing. The action was slow, but the pace moved well. I loved the characterization of Kathy, Ruth, and Tommy. I really connected with Kathy, particularly at the beginning, although I think Ruth ended up being my favorite character. I think the dynamic between the three of them was incredibly well written.
However, the climax was... anti-climatic. Despite Elle's warnings, I didn't shed a tear at all in this book. I was sad, but I was compelled to sit in the corner and cry my eyes out. It bothered me how many characters just seemed to go along with everything they were told and never seemed to fight back against anything. I understand why the author wrote it this way, but it still bothered me.
I just have very mixed feelings towards this novel.
