Moon Chosen is the first book in the young adult paranormal series, called Tales of a New World by author P.C. Cast. I lhave read and really enjoyed the first 6 books in her house of night series, so I was excited to give this new series a try! I really enjoyed the concept behind the book, but overall the story fell a little flat for me. I so badly wanted to love this one because the summary and the cover totally called to me. But in reality, I found the pacing kind of slow and awkward, and frankly the story was more than a little boring for most of the novel. It did pick up by the end, and I was vaguely interested in seeing where the story was going, but getting through this story took me entirely too long. I kept putting down the book and going back to it, but it never could hold my interest for more than 20 minutes at a time. (which is very surprising and not like me at all with a book.)

Moon Chosen wasn't all bad though. Like I said, it has a very cool concept. I loved that Mari, the main character is both a total insider in her clan, because her mom is the revered leader, but also an outsider because of her skin. It gives her away as not really being one of their people. In fact, in order for Mari to even go outside she has to cake her skin in mud. But even that wasn't enough to hold my attention. So many times while I was reading, I just had no idea what story was trying to be told. I didn't know where the book was going. And I think, ultimately it was that lack of direction that had my attention wandering each time. I liked some of the more mysterious elements of the story, but I wanted more. More something. I just don't know what.

Bottom line: This series has the potential to be interesting because it does have some cool mysterious elements woven into the world, but in the end it was a bit too slow and boring to hold my attention. It wasn't the book for me. But don't just take my word for it. Lot's of people have really enjoyed Moon Chosen, so if you are a fan of P.C. Cast and of new paranormal worlds, give this book a try.
