Howling on Hold
by E.J. Russell
Rating : 3.75 stars.
Not really a standalone.
This was a different slow burn paranormal romance that was part humour (courtesy of a side character) and part mystery.
Unfortunately I found that the world building was a let down. There were references to different species of supernaturals and their politics that were obviously covered in previous books. As I haven’t read those books, I felt that I was missing vital pieces of the backstory. Especially since some of the side characters, that featured prominently, were MC’s from previous books and their relationships to the MC’s in this book wasn’t fully explained.
Tanner and Chase were both very likeable characters. They had feelings for each other and after a lot of hurdles to jump they finally acted upon them.
There is minimal angst and the heat factor is low.
I would have enjoyed this more if I’d read the previous books set in this universe.
