This book grabbed me by the lapels (okay, okay, I was wearing a hoodie at the time, it's called poetic license) from the first sentence and didn't let go until after I had finished it. Those first moments of the story as Kathryn swims up from the depths of sleep to a knock at her door from the man who has come to tell her that her husband, a pilot, has died in a plane crash are impeccable and engaging, and as the story unfolds this feeling only grows. Marvelous.
