The House Across the Lake
by Riley Sager
I went into this one with extremely low expectations. However, I wound up being pleased. While this is not my favorite Sager, it was definitely better than Survive the Night.
Enjoyed:
- The twist-- didn't see it coming and I was here for it.
- The last 50% of the book in general was really well done.
- The setting-- creepy enough that you know anything can happen
What I didn't:
- ENOUGH with the drunk, unreliable FEMALE narrator. It is overplayed and just getting annoying. This plays into the stereotype that every time a female is worried that she is hysterical.
- The first part of the book felt a bit repetitive.
Sager Rankings:
- LTIL
- HBD
- THATL
- LED
- FG
- STN
