And We're Off by Dana Schwartz

It took me a while to get into it because the protagonist is kind of annoying at the beginning, but it was worth sticking thru the first bit. Nora is pretty angsty, but also tenderhearted and headstrong. She knows what she wants in life, but she's both terrified of getting it, and terrified of not being good enough to get it. She's focused and innovative and ambitious as an artist, trying to follow in her grandfather's footsteps, but also to create her own path. Also, she has relationship drama. It was great to see her and her mom get to know each other better and build a good relationship, and I really would have liked to see more of that on the page earlier in the book.
