libscote 's review for:
Woven in Moonlight
by Isabel Ibañez
It took me a little while to get into this one, because I didn't know a lot about Bolivia and I was having a hard time picturing some of the different areas. I also don't speak Spanish, and although there is a glossary at the end, I appreciated the slight confusion and working to figure things out.
Ximena is the decoy for the ousted condesa of Inksasia, and very few people know. When the fake king, Atoc, claims the condesa as his bride, she goes in the real condesa's place. In the palace, she tries to bring about the downfall of the fake king by finding a powerful relic. But what does Ximena really know about Inksasia's history?
This is a book that doesn't have easy answers. History is complicated, and often difficult to find the right answers after a war has gone on. I like that this book keeps it complicated. I did think it took Ximena a little longer to catch on than I would have liked, but I do have to admit that strong prejudices take time to change. And maybe I don't want to admit that about myself.
