Eurgh. The praise for this book is everywhere but I just …. don’t get it. All over this debut is effusive praise: ‘funny’, ‘life enhancing’, ‘charming’, and ‘a delight’. I think I read a different book.
Lessons in Chemistry is about Elizabeth Zott, a chemist railing against sexism and misogyny in 1960s America. I wanted to root for her, I should have been rooting for her. Instead I was annoyed and frustrated.
The best bits were narrated by the dog, six-thirty.
