A Light Most Hateful
by Hailey Piper
This horror novel is definitely a wild ride and I quite enjoyed it. Things start out a bit slow at first (which was fine by me, it helped me to get a better feel for the characters) until the dread started creeping in and shatters the montanity of small town life. Things started moving quite fast in the second half, which I also enjoyed, especially since the story is still relatively easy to follow despite the constant changes.
My favorite parts of this novel were the unhealthy dysfunctional relationships, the body horror and the sci fi weirdness of it all and I absolutely adored these parts.
At parts I did find myself a bit missing a deeper connection to the characters and their relationships (especially between Olive & Christmas) and while that makes sense in the larger picture of the story, it made the first part of the book (until the big twist) sometimes feel a bit too boring.
All in all this was a fun sapphic coming-of-age horror and I absolutely adored Christmas.
