Gods of Mars: A Barsoom Novel by Edgar Rice Burroughs
3.0

Gah! This one ended with a massive cliff hanger!! That's just really mean. I can't stand it! That's it. I'm picking up the next book right now.
This book had a lot of fighting. Just battle after battle, against monsters and beasts and Martian men, bloody and gory and rough. There was some good spying and intrigue in the middle. All in all, a great plot! The descriptions of the Martian landscape, cities, and dungeons were detailed and imaginative, but sometimes confusing.

It made me laugh how every humanoid Martian woman who sees John Carter must immediately fall in love with him. And not just a crush, but seriously crazy in love, where she'll risk her life to save his, or murder some other woman out of jealousy. I mean, really?!?

I do like how honorable and noble John Carter is. Several times he is faced with a choice, to take the easy way out and do something slightly less honorable, or to do the hard thing and keep his spotless honor. He always chooses honor, no matter the cost, and I love that about him. He's a real old-fashioned knight on the white horse kind of hero!
