A Sweet Sting of Salt
by Rose Sutherland
A pride month read I read and listened to recently! It’s a retelling of the selkie wife folktale but reads much like historical fiction. The atmosphere is claustrophobic and tense but there’s still a lot of joy, love, and perseverance in this book. I loved the connection between Muirin and Jean and the clear care that went into showcasing life in Nova Scotia in the early 1800s. If you want a wlw historical fiction that’s steeped in folklore and has shades of being a thriller at times, I recommend this one!
