The book talks a lot about the Civil Rights Movement and how not everyone in the south was for integration which brought up new concerns and important conversations - even disagreements and arguments. Some people wanted integration while others just simply wanted equality. I really liked reading the conversations between the characters regarding integration and their thoughts and concerns behind the issue. However, I was really bored with the characters. The conversations they had were important and had a lot of detail but the characters themselves were kind of two-dimensional and I struggled with that.
The authors writing style is captivating with how she wrote the dialogue but I just needed more from the book. Moonrise Over New Jessup is a super slow moving story, the first half of the book I really struggled through. I would dread picking this book back up but at the same time I really wanted to finish it because I was interested in how it would end however, I was honestly a little disappointed with the ending
