Crooked Kingdom by Leigh Bardugo
4.0

i really enjoyed this book.
it was such a fun and entertaining and gripping read!

i love how bardugo writes! i love how she plots her stories, how she makes the characters and story fit together without making it seem as if she fits either the story around the characters or the other way around. she manages to make it all work so well without it seeming forced and that is certainly a talent!

but because she knows her plot and characters so well she sometimes gets a bit lost in sharing more then necessary in that moment.
for example: Kaz doesn’t like being touched and gets flashbacks to bad situations when he is touched (not a spoiler since this is book two and it was very clearly bashed out in book one that he has that personality trait!) so when he is touched in this book he keeps experiencing flashbacks to another time where it happened -not the same thing over and over, but so similar that it felt overly reparative because we already know Kaz doesn’t like touch since as i already mentioned we learned that in book one!

so while a bit more backstory is overall nice to learn about, i felt the moments those backstories where thrown in weren’t the. rat and made the story drag on a bit.

but that could also be because i just wanted to know how everything would end up and how it would work out in the end and what Kaz thought out for the big reveal.
so maybe it’s not even bardugos way of writing or placement choice of those flashbacks but rather my impatient behinds fault (very possible!)
