This was the most eye opening books I have ever read about the lead up to World War II. American history focuses on what was going on within the country, the depression and the struggles of a nation trying to recover. World History talks briefly about the rise to power of a man named Hitler but doesn't talk about his brutality until almost 1939.
There is such a problem with the education system. The fact that we don't teach all of the truth is mind blowing. How can we just gloss over the fact that almost 5 years prior to the start of WWII we had a man in Germany, our ambassador, a man who was deeply involved with every day and political life in Germany, tell our government we needed to intercede... instead our government focused on the fact that Germany owed us money so they could do whatever they damn well pleased until they payed us back. What the hell is wrong with people?! Americans are being hurt and as long as Germany pays you back you don't care? Because the Jews were expendable right? I'm so disgusted by the actions of the American government during the 1930s in regards to international affairs.
I highly recommend this book to people looking to get a better understanding of Germany leading up to WWII. This was eye opening and incredibly well written.
