This is book 5 in the series and although you can read it as a standalone I would recommend reading in order if you want a more in depth backstory of the characters. This book had me hooked from the beginning and the short punchy chapters make it a fast paced read. I had no idea who had taken the girls or why but I really enjoyed following along with the investigation. I really feel for Ellie because the town always turns against her or blames her for any deaths even though she puts her life on the line many times to save as many people as possible. There are so many great characters that Herron manages to bring to life and she makes you feel like you are in the mountains with Ellie every step of the way. I look forward to more.
