As a kid born in the eighties, I of course watched the movie and had no idea it was based on a book. At least not until a few years ago.

But I finally read it and it's delightful. I definitely got the "kids these days don't ever read" vibe from it, though, and I can't recall getting that from the movie, but it's been a while.
