Tin Man by Sarah Winman
5.0

Sometimes a book just comes out of nowhere and hits you right in the feels and rockets into your favourites seemingly without any effort. I knew some people who really loved Tin Man but I wasn’t really aware of the plot or what the story was like... so when I started reading this one I wasn’t prepared for the beauty or the heartbreak.
.
This is one of those books that, although I loved it, I wouldn’t recommend it to everyone because of the style - Winman doesn’t care for speech marks or clearly delineated lines between past and present. The result is a beautiful dreamlike narrative for some, and probably a frustrating experience for others.
.
I don’t want to give away much of the story because that was what made it such a powerful read for me, the unexpectedness, but I’ll just say that it’s a story about a gorgeous friendship, love, sexuality and loss. I had actual tears while reading parts of this book, and it’s rare that a book physically moves me to tears!
.
This is certainly the most powerful book I’ve read that was less than 200 pages, and I can’t imagine the skill it must take to craft such an elegant yet raw story in so few pages! I will definitely be seeking out more of Sarah Winman’s work! 🙌
