It was like Wells googled both ASD and the law and is doing neither justice.
Autism rep: OTT cliches. It’s giving 1930s escaped sanitarium patient with internet access.
The law:
“The law doesn’t distinguish between murder and conspiracy to commit murder.” Well, it definitely does. They’re literally different crimes, Harper, with different possible sentences. You don’t even have to murder someone to be convicted of conspiracy!
“She’s a walking RICO charge.” Well maybe but doesn’t really sound like she would have the right info at this point in the book? For intrastate murders, sure.
Points for the use of spousal privilege as a way to shore up the Marriage of Convenience trope in a contemporary. This actually makes sense. It’s a personal pet peeve when folks in modern settings “have to” fake date or marry for “reasons.” This is a real reason.
Unfortunately I just don’t think I can do Cate Wells books. I DNFed another of her books at ~80% in and I can already tell I’m in for a bad time.
