An excellent investigative work detailing the efforts of successive neoliberal governments, from Thatcher to Blair to Cameron, to promote a dangerous and insidious individualism that puts the woes of the working class squarely on the shoulders of those who suffer from them, that her than the governments and corporations that caused them.

With council housing being sold off, unions being smashed, skilled labour industries being closed and shipped offshore, the war on drugs focusing solely on working class communities, etc, the bourgeoisie have been waging class war on the proletariat for decades, while simultaneously claiming "we're all middle class now!" They then mock the working class as 'chavs' and claim they are all single teenage mothers on drugs and welfare, dangerous, lazy, racist and working on supermarket checkouts in ripoff Burberry caps, as if that's the worst crime of the century.

This has allowed far right parties such as Ukip and the BNP to claim they give a shit about the working class, and aim the vitriol away from the capitalists and towards immigrants.

Whilst Owen Jones is no revolutionary, and some of his suggested reforms are patently ridiculous ('put one worker representative in each boardroom to embarrass the CEO into not giving himself such a huge bonus'???), some of his ideas, such as consumers societies, have echoes of Lenin's control measures from his pamphlet "The Impending Catastrophe and How to Combat It"!
