Dead Girls by Erik German

While short, I think this book accomplished what it was supposed to do - make you angry with how black (and other people of color) had been (and unfortunately still are) treated in the hands of the police. Reading this and realizing that it’s based on a true story and how these horrific crimes were pinned on an innocent black kid frustrated me to my core that these types of injustices still occur in the modern age. Having the sense that George Whitmore Jr’s case ended up becoming the leading example in the creation of the Miranda Rights helps elevate some of the anger, but I will say that I would have liked to read a bit more on the lengthy trail process that he had to go through in order to be released. I’ll have to take a look at some of the additional reading stated at the end of the book for sure.
