needed to read a banned book for the @popsugar reading challenge and had this one on my shelves — y’all… this book… i have so many thoughts (and i know i’m years late to the conversation!). it fell short in so many ways, and i wanted so much more character development, fleshed out depiction of mental health struggles, exploration of hannah’s depression, etc. as someone to whom these things are quite relevant, i didn’t connect to this content at all, and wanted more from this one. it had a john green-esque quality to it at times, but it just… didn’t quite work, and it made me sad, and i want better stories for and about teens who are struggling. 🤍
