This is the follow up book to their earlier ‘Science(ish): The Peculiar Science Behind the Movies’. Each chapter deals with a different cause of death (a virus, asteroids, robots, climate change etc), using a single film as a discussion point. As with the previous book, how much enjoyment you get will depend on whether you have seen the film being discussed - I really enjoyed the chapters on Contagion and The Day of the Triffids, but not so much the chapter on Geostorm. It is an effective method, although I think that I liked the first book more partly because the theme of death made this one more pessimistically slanted, and partly because I have seen fewer of the films. Overall a great book if you enjoy discussing the theories behind film plots, I'd love to read another one.
