When I first read about Last Song Before Night, Ilana C. Meyer’s debut epic fantasy novel, I was struck immediately by the story. I knew that this was a book I would have to read. I was in no way disappointed by it. Last Song Before Night is a powerful, beautiful read that filled my mind with it’s story, and Meyer’s truly unique writing style made me want to continue reading until the very last page.

The characters really drive this story and give it the magic that makes it so beautiful. Each one is so well written, with unique personalities and realistic motivations. I found myself attached to so many of them, reading faster and faster just so I could find out what would happen to Lin, or Darien, or Rianna, or Marlen next. Characters I despised in the beginning for their actions slowly gave me reasons to understand them better and to, eventually, love them in a way.

Meyer’s style of writing is simply beautiful. She is a pro at adjectives. Meyer has built a stunning world and filled it with such vibrant descriptions that I had absolutely no trouble picturing what I was reading. Every sentence seems to be filled with a love for the story she has written.

Last Song Before Night will definitely be high on my list of new releases for this year, I really recommend it for fans of epic fantasy and beautiful storytelling. It’s a story that I think will always have a special place in my heart and I will want to revisit it over and over as I await future books from Meyer!
