So Maddie is basically Louisa Clarke and Chase is your typical brooding goth with toxic masculinity who says shit like “i can’t cry or do feminine stuff like that (im paraphrasing, but that’s the gist).” We have an asian (or was it half korean) character named Nina Na (i shit you not) who happens to be the bully for the white main character because She Is Jealous of Maddie, Because Maddie’s Life is So Easy And Everyone Worships Her and something about that just don’t sit right with me. They end up fake dating and of course, of course the “bad guy” is suspicious about their fake relationship and conveniently some dumb kid spoils it to everyone in the family because “yikes Maddie hugged my doctor really tightly like people in movies and they hugged until there were no space between them” ok kid fuck you too. Honestly the only thing i like here is the banter between the two characters but honestly that’s it. Overall it was an okay ish read with a heck ton of cliches. Also the cover is nice.
