Pretty Girl-13 by Liz Coley

I don't think this book actually deserves 5 stars but I really enjoyed reading it so that's what it gets.

This books makes you think about things you may not know much about, and thats never a bad thing. It's fiction and so nothing should be taken as fact but I do think that it will help de-stigmatize mental illness.

Angies character is well written and believable. I found myself empathizing with her even when I knew she was wrong. This book rand true for me, as someone who has been through a traumatic experience. Everything doesn't just go back to normal, even when your friends expect them too. Your parents dont just forget about it, they change, you change, everything changes and I feel like this book accurately portrays what its like to deal with getting back to normal after an abnormal and traumatic experience (although in Angies case its a bit more than 'abnormal' of course.)

The whole thing may not have been 100% realistic as far as her personalities and that whole side of the story went, but it was a good read and for a subject that basically doesn't exist in YA books at all, I think it was done quite well and I'd like to see more books like this as we work towards de-stigmatizing mental illness.
