Hannah loves her boyfriend and being in an open relationship but one bored afternoon on a dating app leads her to swiping right on Morana, an alluring and mysterious woman. After a sensual and intimate night together Hannah wakes up with a sore neck and a newfound bloodlust. She barely avoids killing her boyfriend and while escaping realizes she has no idea where to go next, or who to trust.

To Hannah’s luck, she eventually finds herself in the company of Araceli, who survives by drinking off a consenting human. She tells Hannah that once a vampire takes a life, they lose their soul as her own mother had. As Hannah survives off blood bags that barely keep her satiated, she and Araceli move from place to place, living in squalor. However, as her hunger for fresh blood grows so does the connection she has with her maker, Morana. Can Hannah keep herself from losing control and killing a human? Or will Morana’s pull be too much for her? All the gore and mystery in, Allure.

I love sapphic vampire books and am honored to add this gem to my collection. It was short but sweet. The author managed to pack an entire vampiric love story into less than 110 pages. Although I wish it was longer only so I could get more juicy details of Hannah’s relationships and adventures. The characters were genuine and well-rounded despite the length, which was a huge surprise. The love triangle/square was unique and created an interesting dynamic. Also, I enjoyed the polyamory rep and diverse identities featured which is very in line with vampiric vibes. The plot was a little lackluster but I think the characters shine so it balances out. My only critique is the writing was slightly juvenile at times and it did take me out of the story a little. However, I did enjoy the style of writing and the flow.

All in all, this sapphic vampire short is a must-read. From soulless ancient vampires to buff butch allies this book will suck you in (no pun intended). Not to mention have you possibly rooting for the villains…or are they? If you like fast-paced mysteries, queer found family, and gay bloodsuckers then you are in the right place. Happy reading!

TW: Alcohol, anxiety, assault, blood, bones, depression, emotional abuse, mental health, misogyny, and violence.
