4,5/5. Not sure about calling this book a character riven, because it's written on various period of time, so you mostly change character every 50 pages, while you past through a generation (more or less 25 years). The characters are sure well develop for this short amount of pages and time we pass with them them, but I wouldn't call it a character driven story/book. It's a book that present a very original and interesting plot, putting plant in the front plan. Almost has original as the trilogy of ants (La trilogie des fourmis) de Bernard Werber. Unfortunately it has problem with the rhythm. Some part are fluid and goes well, but from time to time we get in a very slow part were nothing happen and with seem to go nowhere, and there it start being fun again. So those up and down made it loose half a star for me. It was still a good scyfy read with a lot of interesting concept and philosophy about consciousness and what is intelligence. I had very high expectation for this one, hard to achieved kind of expectations, and most of it were indeed achieved so a very good job! I will probably read the next one as soon as it gets out!
