So, this started out better than the first book, which was entirely too fast burn for me. Okay, this one was still fast paced seeing as they have sex in the first chapter, but their relationship built up more organically and the fact that it took more than half a book for their first kiss was quite nice, even if the kiss itself could’ve been more angsty. That being said, I absolutely hated how heteronormative coded their relationship was. Magnus was always describe as a Twink with capital T, feminine and 100% a bottom, but his dynamic with Sem was clearly heteronormative. If they didn’t use he/him pronouns for him, I could’ve easily believed I was reading a straight romance.
