Shadow and Bone
by Leigh Bardugo
4.5☆
This was a nice surprise! The only reason I bought the series is because the show will be released soon, and I wanted to read the books first, because normally I always find the book after I watched a show or movie.
When I picked it up, I thought I was going to feel 'meh' about it. I've seen mixed reviews, and some things about both the books and the trailer for the show, and thought that maybe this book series wouldn't be that interesting for me.
But I was wrong. Wow. I was so wrong. I was immediately pulled into the story (though the way it started bothered me a little, you're immediately thrown into the world without any explanations, and it felt like I accidentally skipped a chapter) and the pages went by before I know it. What normally took me a day to read, now took me 2 hours. And I didn't want to stop reading. On week days I'm busy for school, preparing for exams, and I noticed I kept thinking about this book and how excited I was to continue after I was done with my school stuff that day.
There were definitely some surprises in this book. There were at least 2 moments where I just stared at the page, thinking 'oh wow'.
I didn't always like the characters, but that didn't bother me and didn't make the book any less fun.
Normally I don't 'binge read' series, I usually read one or two books in between, but I am now definitely going to pick up the next book! I'm so excited to continue this series!
