The Sky Is Everywhere by Jandy Nelson

Full Review from my blog Owl Eyes Reviews

I’ve been wanting to pick up this book ever since I read “I’ll Give You the Sun” last year, which is also by Jandy Nelson. Unfortunately, it took me quite a while to be able to pick it up because of school. I tried really hard not to compare this book to “I’ll Give You the Sun” but in the end I couldn’t help myself. Although I really enjoyed this book, it didn’t give me the feeling I got from “I’ll Give You the Sun”.

I really love it when a book has little bits of magical realism in them where you can’t tell if what is happening is real or not. I usually don’t do too well with books that are about a character who died before the book stated but because of the moments of magical realism, I found myself attached. This book gave me beautiful imagery. Sometimes I felt like I was there in the story with the characters which was amazing.

The characters felt so real, which made everything there were going through that much more painful. I wanted to be there for them in any way that I could.

I think that if this book were not written so beautifully with such wonderful characters that I probably wouldn’t have enjoyed it as much as I did. When it come to YA these days, it seems like I really like the writing and hate the story or vice versa. There were some parts of this story there weren’t my favorite but it pulled through. I still felt for the characters. I cried. And, in the end, I enjoyed it.
