The story is very solid. The pacing at the beginning of the book felt naturally fast paced, but by the midway point it started to feel a little wonky. It's easy to become attached to the characters, but I would've loved to have stayed mostly with Xavier "X" Rodrigez throughout most of the book. I probably would've enjoyed the story and the other side characters of Hell Divers a bit more if there was a little bit less of the jumping between X and the ship, but I can understand why it's done as it's trying to start us on a journey through the series.
Graphic: Death, Gore, Violence
Moderate: Alcoholism, Cancer, Death of parent
Minor: Body horror, Murder, Injury/Injury detail
