The Henna Wars
by Adiba Jaigirdar
I am drowning in joy! Ahhhhh
I love a good wlw relationship, but I especially love a wlw story with representation. Henna Wars follows Nishat a 16yr old Bengali girl living in Ireland who comes to the realisation that she’s a Lesbian. Now as someone who comes from an Asian background and is also Bisexual myself I know the fear Nishat must have felt about the prospect of coming out to her parents. Yet she still does it. It takes a while for her parents to get on board but by the end of the story we get a happy ending( which made me a little teary)
Everything about this book was soooo cute. From the relationship between Nishat and her sister, to the relationship between our main character and Flavia. But on top of that, there was so much REPRESENTATION! And I genuinely could not be happier.
I think the author does a great job of portraying what it feels like to be LGBTQ+ when you come from an Asian background, she also does not shy away from all the hardships Nishat has to face as a lesbian from a Muslim background who also goes to a Catholic school.
All in all this book was a solid 5/5. I loved the characters, I loved the whole promise of the story and I genuinely felt seen!
