Across the Universe
by Beth Revis
This was a great mix of Sci-Fi and Dystopian literature. We find ourselves on a ship that's supposed to help save humanity after Earth, or Sol-Earth, has been compromised. Aboard the ship, we have a totalitarian type government who has found their own way of forcing the people to do what is desired.
I was horrified at the means used to control the people and the population and hate how easily something like this could be implemented even here on earth. It's scary to think how much control our elected leaders really do have over our lives, even here in America.
Elder and Amy, along with some help from both friends and enemies, discover what's going on and go about trying to stop it. But there are other problems aboard this ship that I'm assuming we will get to learn more about in the 2nd and 3rd books in this series.
I'm a big fan of dystopian books and I'm not sure why it took me so long to read this one. I like how it's got the elements needed for a good dystopia, but also is different from others in the genre and intrigues the reader to want to know more and read more. If you like Sci-Fi, Futuristic/Post-Apocalyptic, and/or Dystopian genres, you will probably really enjoy this book.
