Wayward: A Memoir of Spiritual Warfare and Sexual Purity
by Alice Greczyn
I hear the author speak on one of my weekly podcasts (A Little Bit Culty). She spoke about her experience leaving the Christian religion she grew up ensconced in and how she realized how controlling and kind of culty it was. I related to a lot of what she said so I decided to read her book. It's a memoir and has more details about her experiences and what she went through. In a lot of ways she grew up in a more conservative way than I did but also experienced a lot of things I never had to, including hidden homelessness when her parents took their lives on the road and camped, stayed with friends and church people, and travelled all around the country while not actually having a home. The ways purity culture influenced her life definitely affected me in similar ways, though not as intensely, and I appreciate her sharing her story.
