The Other Mrs. by Mary Kubica
4.0

3.5 rounded up to 4

A sudden move to a decrepit old house on an isolated island off the coast of Maine in the dead of winter. The house and the move offer an escape from problems but soon Sadie finds herself face to face with even bigger ones.

Inheriting a house from a sister who has committed suicide and leaves behind a teenager to care for isn't easy but Sadie and Will could use the fresh start. Sadie has recently resigned from her job at a hospital after some trouble and she suspects her husband Will is having an affair.

Once the family moves in the real psychological thrills begin to unfold. I enjoyed the narration and it definitely added to my sense of anxiety over the twists. This was a wild ride as watch the 2 worlds of this family collide and combust - affecting everyone in its wake. While I do enjoy the psychological aspects that Kubica expertly weaves into the book and the fact that it dealt with some heavy topics like suicide, abuse and mental health, I couldn't rate this higher because I had it figured out early on.

I enjoyed the eerie atmosphere and the overall quick pacing of the story but while it was entertaining, the story simply didn't wow me the way I had hoped it would.
