The Help by Kathryn Stockett
5.0

"Dirty ain't a color."
Cruelty. Empathy. Survival.

The narrative is immersive, it puts you in the shoes of people of color. Grammar isn't perfect, just like black people's limited learning was at the time.

Not only that, we see Eugenia's story since she tells a housemaid if she wishes to change things. Because only then, she does. She changes the lives of many housemaides thanks to a simple idea.

We see Eugenia's point of view more than I'd like, but it was easy to grow on me because, well, I connected to her and that's what the writer wants us to do as well.

A pretty good story that introduces me to historical fiction, something every non-black person should read to educate themselves whilst not getting out of the escapism that reading provides with these 3 maids and an aspiring writer who finally sees them.
