I was really pleasantly surprised by this one. I didn't know it was contemporary, so that was the first surprise and made me a bit wary of how that would work with dragons in the mix, but I liked the way the magic in this world was built. There was a nice mixture of humor and character and family and nothing really felt too slow or too rushed to me.

I liked most of the characters and how they developed and changed and wouldn't really mind seeing more writing based in this world, though this work stood well on its own. It didn't blow me away, but I don't have any real bad things to say about it. A nice, enjoyable read!
