When I joined this blog tour I thought I was going to review a rom-com: fun, stories of women who change their life, some romance. A fun and light story.
I was wrong because this story shares some elements of a sophisticated rom-com but it is also a complex and well written story that talks about people, living on the edge, trauma, grief and finding hope.
I would not define this book heart-breaking: Zaffy (Zaffron), even if she’s living on the edge, is a strong character, someone who want to improve her life and find a way to be independent and stop living on government allowances. I loved how the author delivers this complex character and make you feel for her but also creates a strong woman full of dignity.
Blaire is another interesting and well developed character, a man with a big heart that made me smile and love how he interacts with people.
The characters in this book have lots of secrets and sad stories but there’s hope and this is one of the strengths of this story.
You can be moved to tears but will also smile and root for the characters.
I loved the style of writing and I think this author is a talented storyteller. She wrote a book that flows, never bores and keeps you turning pages because you want to know what will happen. You can feel her empathy toward her characters and appreciate how well she describes the world of Zaffy and her friends.
A poignant, heart-warming and compelling story that I loved and hope there will be other by this author.
It’s strongly recommended.
