Daughter of the Forest
by Juliet Marillier
Tragically beautiful. Could not put it down. I have rarely loved a book so much.
TW: there is a pretty graphic r*pe scene, and quite a lot of trauma. In a way, I would say this book is kind of about trauma, as a whole, and personally I found the exploration of trauma and healing and not-healing phenomenally articulated. However, though this character’s journey may be a refuge for some, it could most definitely, absolutely be harmful and hurtful for others.
If reading the paperback, you can definitely skip the most horrifically graphic parts by fully skipping pages 199 & 200, but be warned there is recurring trauma and memory for, more or less, the rest of the book.
