The Damage
by Caitlin Wahrer
A heart breaking family drama about male sexual assault and its aftermath
Wow, this book was intense! I haven’t read many books about male sexual assault and this one was done well. I felt for each family member. Caitlin Wahrer's writing really makes you feel like you are in the middle of all the emotion. This book is definitely a slow burn but the simmering plot is unflinching, uncomfortable (in a good way) and heart wrenching.
The audio narration was very well done. The only thing that would have made it better would have been having multiple narrators for the different characters POVs. Beware, this isn’t your ordinary thriller. It’s part family drama, part police procedural/mystery. I don’t shy away from saying that I am not a huge slow burn reader but this one really worked for me. It dealt with assault, trauma and emotions so well. It was impossible not to get caught up in it. I can’t wait to see where Caitlin Wahrer's writing takes us next!
