4.5 stars. Love a romance with mature aged characters.
In this third instalment of the series Devon and Kimball get their story told. Devon is the Chief of the fire station and Kimball is a specialist arson investigator. There’s an intriguing mystery to solve involving arson and that brings Kimball to the island. He and Devon really do enjoy purposely tormenting, teasing and bickering with each other and they also can both be rather stubborn and set in their ways as many 40 and 50 year olds can be. This does lead to some fun back and forth exchanges between them.
The mystery element of the plot has some twists and turns that kept me fully engaged and it intertwined beautifully with the slow burn romance between these two wonderful characters. Devon and Kimball pretty much tried to ignore/disbelieve their inconvenient attraction to each other but after actually getting to know one another, the nature or their relationship changed and grew into more. I cheered them on, felt their pain, laughed at some of their antics and their HEA warmed my heart and left me smiling. I’m really looking forward to the next in the series.
