One Day at a Time: 365 Innovations, Discoveries, and Triumphs in World History by Bruce Wilson, Jr.

informative fast-paced

4.0

History is a deep well of wild facts and weird stories. This book presents 365 amazing events in history that still shape our world today. We begin with the first known writing from 3100 BC and travel through history all the way to 2019 when scientists were able to take the first photograph of a black hole. This book includes artists, scientists, royals, politicians, engineers, musicians, doctors, and ordinary people who did extraordinary things.

One of my favorite sections was about Jesus' baptism and teaching ministry in 29 AD. The text says that although people may disagree about the New Testament Bible, historians have confirmed that Jesus was a real person who lived and taught and was crucified. This book does not talk about His resurrection, but the section about Jesus did say that Jesus taught His students to trust in God, love their neighbors, and forgive their enemies.

Another cool section was about Cristofori who invented the first piano in 1709. I'm a pianist and I have always loved learning about how the first pianos were developed.

It was so interesting to learn all the these cool snippets of history, and be able to see how humanity has developed over the centuries!

(Although this book uses the more modern BCE and CE form of dates, I much prefer the BC and AD format, so that is how I am writing dates in this review.)
