I think this book shows how easily powerful men can manipulate others, especially if they know their weaknesses and a lot of alcohol is involved. This story focuses mainly on Italian writers, but you know that this is repeated over and over in every field, in every country. Charlotte grows throughout this story, and you always know something is going to happen, but you don't quite know what. Powerful.
