Teacher of the Year
by M.A. Wardell
The Good
I loved how fluffy, sweet and awkward this book was. Marvin was so relatable. He is a shy, awkward, cat lover. I loved the inclusion of his Jewish side with the yiddish phases and slang. Olan was so awkward and nerdy which I really liked. I found him and Illona's relationship so cute and endearing. I also found his story really interesting and felt for him. The relationship progression in this book was done really well and felt realistic. I loved both Olan and Marvin and was rooting for them a lot.
The Bad
As someone with a similar past as Marvin, I'm conflicted on how I feel. As a child of an addict, I cannot imagine the amount of work and therapy it would take to be able to be in a relationship with someone in recovery. I really understood why this made him so anxious and lead to the push and pull in his relationship with Olan. I got triggered just reading it, I cannot imagine being it in. A part of dating someone in recovery is accepting the possibility of them relapsing and knowing you may have of aid them through that which is something I wish was discussed more.
